The Centre for Studies and Research in Tourism (MOST) of the University of Santiago de Compostela organized November 7, a day in the Hall of the Faculty of Humanities of Lugo focused on the benefits of the pilgrimage as a therapy of well-being. The initiative proposes a comprehensive look at the Camino de Santiago as a space of coexistence, personal transformation and dynamism territorial, in addition to serving as a meeting point to reflect on their impacts on social, cultural and economic.
The activity —cofounded by Provincial de Lugo, EUniWell and the Chair of the Camino de Santiago— will start at 9:30 pm with a welcome institutional position of Gonzalo Francisco Fernández Suárez, dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Rubén C. Lois González, director of the IDEGA; and Lucrezia Lopez, director of the MOST and coordinator of the meeting.
The first intervention will be chargeable to Rubén Lois, that will give the conference entitled “revitalization of the Way in the XX and XXI centuries as a cultural phenomenon and tourist”, where repasará recovery contemporary of the routes pilgrim and his value as a symbol of identity and economic engine.
Two tables to reflect on the welfare and the territory
Then will be held the round table “The benefits of the Way: therapy of well-being”, moderated by Lucrezia Lopez. It will participate M. the Assumption Arias, president of the Association of the Camino de Santiago by Valdeorras and publisher of the magazine Book of the Way; Jesús A. Picallo Santos, deputy speaker of the Cluster of Tourism of Galicia and the president of the Way of the Twilight; and Diana Fernández Méndez, professor and researcher of the group GAME (IDEGA).
The second table, entitled “The Road to Santiago: the dynamics and transformations of socio-territorial”, will feature the presence of Manuel Miras Franqueira, senator and president of honour of the Association of Municipalities of the English Way; José Luis Fernández Ansedes, vice-president of the Grouping of Associations of Friends of the Way of the North and president of Giving Way (Mondoñedo); and Angel Fought Gómez, president of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago in the province of Lugo and the vice-president of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago.
A journey with space for the experience
The program also includes activities of participatory nature. At 14:00 o’clock, M. the Assumption Arias will present the video “anyone tell you you can not”, a piece audiovisual who collects stories of overcoming personal inspired by the pilgrimage of saint james.
The session will conclude with a practical workshop guided by Guido Alvarez, under the title “Lugo and the Way of st. James”. To exit, scheduled at 16:30 hours from the Port of San Pedro, convidará to the participants to find out about the land, the heritage and the spaces of encounter that the Road offers in the heart of the walled city.
