Seminar “Australian of the Balance Sheet of Foods to Colombia”

The project of the Australian Balance Sheet of Foods to Colombia: an approach to food security (2013-2023), presented from the research group on Social Economy and Entrepreneurship Development of the University of Santo Tomás, Bucaramanga, aims to build upon theBalance Sheet of Foods (HBA) in Colombia for the period 2013-2023.

Based on the methodology of the FAO, the HBA integrates data from production, trade and consumption of food, and allows one to estimate the prevalence of malnutrition, as well as to describe the dynamics of the system on food and agriculture, national. This project proposes to update the HBA for each year of the period referred to, providing a valuable tool for the institutions and the guilds in the decision making and the design of policies that promote food security.

The structure of the HBA is based on a matrix that balances the supply and use of foods, and are specific coefficients to calculate both the availability and the nutritional value of the food, helping to deepen the analysis of the food situation in Colombia. The results will be crucial to strengthen the capacity of analysis and the formulation of policies that guarantee access to sufficient food and nutrients for the population.

The seminar will be conducted by educational researchers Leonardo Caraballo, Yoana Bermudez Gonzalez and Diana Astrid Buitrago.
