The european project DIPS kicks off in Greece for boosting public spaces inclusivos in Latin America

The european project Design of Inclusive Public Space 101235951 (DIPS), focused on the design of public spaces inclusivos in cities, Latin american, started this Thursday your route in Thessaloniki (Greece). The initiative is directed by professor of Geography and a researcher of the Institute of Studies and Development of Galicia (IDEGA) of the USC,María José Chapel Mantiñán, and has as main objective the implementation of a master’s degree transnational.

The meeting of the project’s launch was held on Thursday 8 January and prolongarase until day 10 at the University of Thessaloniki. At the meeting attended also the director of the IDEGA, Rubén C. Lois. In the project involved six universities of Argentina, Ecuador and Paraguay, along with public administrations, consultants and institutions, non-governmental Greek.

In recent years, the design and the accessibility of public spaces in Latin America have become a central axis of theurban planning. of These spaces play a fundamental role in the promotion of participation in community of social cohesion and inclusion. However, many urban areas lack public spaces properly designed, which causes the exclusion of groups especially vulnerable as the people in ageing, the cativada, people with disabilities, women or ethnic minorities. A design urban poor not only limits the use of the public space, but that also restricts the social participation and access to essential services, perpetuating the inequalities existing.

Over the three year duration of the project, will develop new plans of study designed to improve the skills and prospects of employability of the students. In addition, it will be promoted the implementation of a new model of governance university in which the student, through projects practical, you will be able to encourage initiatives aimed at ensuring equity, the safety and inclusion in public spaces.

The design DIPS was granted in the framework of the call of the EU ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE-STRAND-2 — Capacity building in the field of higher education Strand 2 and has a budget of 797.133 euros.
